Customer Management Systems (CMS) vs. Customer Relationship Managers (CRM)

What’s the difference? Why bother distinguishing between the two?

Well, as Nick talked about in our webinar Wednesday night (watch the full video below for a limited time), the difference is how we use it and what it’s used for. CRM’s tend to have a focus on driving sales and marketing. Big, big databases of leads and contacts, precise control over how you’re marketing and communicating with people, and maybe some light task management.

A CMS, on the other hand, empowers you to handle the day-to-day management of clients and accounts. And ones built for paint contracting (or similar industries), like Estimate Rocket, will do a much better job of providing functionality and features that make it easier for us to, quite literally, manage our customers.

What else can a Customer Management System do?

The fact is, any CMS worth its salt should be able to provide broad and deep functionality relevant to your paint contracting business. Functionality that includes (but isn’t at all limited to) things like:

  • Managing customer contacts
  • Creating estimates and invoices
  • Job tracking
  • Integrations with your accounting or bookkeeping softwares
  • Calendar management
  • Analytics and reporting
  • Storing relevant customer information

How do I choose a Customer Management System?
